Lucy's Pre-Birthday Party

So Lucy's Birthday is actually tomorrow, 31 August 2010, but we had a small party at our house for her on 22 August 2010. See, Ang left for Peru on Wednesday, 25 August 2010, and was sad she was missing Lucy's 1st Bday, so we decided to throw a mini-party before she left. It was us, and then Michael, Emilie, Lucy, Adam, Cassie, and Peter.

We made a big sandwich on a loaf of french bread and just had some chips. I personally made a fake hamburger... yum! Then for desert we decided to make two pound cakes; a chocolate and a plain. We then took some batter out of both cakes in order to make Lucy a mini-cake that she could eat. I made some cream cheese frosting and Ang frosted her cake. And yes, I documented the making of these cakes with lots of pictures!










Pretty cute, huh? We probably had too much fun making the little cake, but it was worth it!

For the party, we got animal plates, napkins, and hats, and then we blew up some balloons. We even made a small balloon for Lucy that she had tied around her wrist.


Ang gave Lucy a birthday card, a frog toy, and some pajamas. The pajamas (as you can see...) were black with a skeleton on the front, which glows in the dark. Ang loved them because they reminded her of some pajamas she had when she was little. I personally don't remember, but had to admit that Lucy looked pretty cute in these!



So, after we ate and then opened presents, we took Lucy's dress off and plopped her in front of her cake. We sang, and lit the candle (which Em had to blow out), and then waited. At first she just looked at it, but finally we got a fork and gave her a small bite, and she was off! She did pretty good eating her cake, and looked pretty adorable doing it! Somewhere along the way she lost her birthday hat, but that's okay!

Well, Ang had been in Peru now for almost a week and I miss her like crazy! She called us Wednesday night at midnight when she got to Lima. She was at a hostel that they were spending the night at. The next day they took a 10 hour bus ride to Chiclayo (I think...). We finally heard from her tonight. She was able to call us through the internet and we were all glad to hear she was safe and happy!

If you read this Ang, I love you and miss you! I can't wait until you come home! Stay safe!

Basin Drive-In

One of my new favorite things to do is to go to drive-in movies. Ang, Cali, & I have gone to the Basin Drive-In in Mt. Pleasant twice now. It is about an hour drive, but definitely worth it. The drive is beautiful; we keep saying we will take pictures along the route but so far... Not. Anyways, the drive-in is basically in the middle of nowhere but that adds to the adventure!

The drive this time around was rather eventful. First, I hit a bird. It was so sad! It made me tear up! I am such a softy! We also saw two deer, but fortunately didn't hit them! Then we passed two vehicles, which sounds boring but it was my first time passing someone. Lame since I have been driving for like six years, but it was exciting! On the way home we had to pull off to the side to let past a couple of emergency vehicles pass, which was creepy since it was pitch black & we were in the middle of nowhere. And then I ran over a carcass of some sort. Gross! I am kind of convinced that whatever I ran over wasn't dead but Ang & Cali assured me that it was dead. So either they don't want me to feel awful or I have gone crazy.

The first time the three of us went was quite a while ago & we saw (unfortunately) 'The Lightning Thief'. We took the Sequoia that time because it was freezing. This time we saw 'Despicable Me' (adorable) & took the Tundra. It was way more comfortable! We blew up a queen size mattress in the bed of the truck & took tons of pillows and blankets (see Ang & Cali below & ignore the bad quality...I took it with my phone). Another fun thing was we saw lots of shooting stars, and off in the distance there was almost constant lightning.

So after the movie, I was alone in the back of the truck trying to deflate the air mattress & I burped really loud. It was one of the rare occasions that I have carbonation. Anyways, I looked up and this guy in his car was staring at me. I was mortified! I was like, "Ohhh... Sorry." And he was like, "You burp louder than most guys! No wonder they are making you ride in the back of the truck!" Then he drove away. Ang & Cali found it rather amusing, but I was rather embarrassed! Oh well. I can't wait until our next drive-in adventure!

Life Update

Well, it's been a while!

First of all, Angie is home! Yay! She has been in Kampsville, IL for six weeks. She was chosen to be a part of an Archaeology Field School that is sponsored by Arizona State University. Ang had an amazing time and while she is definitely glad to be home, she also misses it! However, she leaves for Peru in a month to do another Archaeology Field School through UVU so she wont be here for long. I have missed her like crazy, and will be sad to see her go again. Hooray for great opportunities though.

Ang was not supposed to be home until Thursday (depending on how fast she drove... it is like a 19 hour drive...), so we were definitely suprised to see her. I was still semi-sleeping and she jumped on me. I turned, looked at her, garbled something, and then rolled back over. A few second later it hit me that Angie was home so I sat up and was like 'oh!' It was a very nice surprise! Unfortunately, Ang had to come home early because the girl that was driving home with her wanted to leave. So while all along she had planned on staying until Wednesday, on Saturday the other girl threw a fit so they came home. Good for us, bad for her!

Hhmmm.... What else? We went to Wolf Creek at the end of June. Since I had school I could only go up on the weekend and then the end of the week. So the first weekend, me, my mom, and Miss Lucy (her parents were in St. George so we were watching her) went up and met Adam, Sandy, Cassie, and Peter. We didn't do much... Went swimming... Played games... We went home Sunday night and then headed back on on Thursday. This time, Emilie and Lucy came up with us. That was nice, because Emilie had never been even though she's been in the family for a looooong time. We did pretty much the same thing... We went swimming, watched a couple of movies... Nothing too exciting. Here is Lucy in her swimsuit and sun hat. She was pretty cute! It was her first time swimming and she loved it!

Look how much bigger Lucy is getting! She has started taking some steps and she also has a few teeth and is getting a bit more hair! I still watch her on Tuesday's and Thursday's, which is always fun. I love crawling around on the floor with her because she thinks it is pretty funny!

Also, Cassie and Peter both just had a birthday. Cassie turned four and Peter turned two. It is crazy how fast time goes! Lucy will turn one next month, which is insane! I definitely can't believe we have had her around for that long!

Well, that's about it for now. My good friend Cali is coming over after work today to hang out with me and Angie. We might go to a movie or just rent one. Ang has been sleeping pretty much all day because she got zero sleep in Illinois. I'll post more pictures of Wolf Creek later. I haven't unloaded them all off my camera yet. Farewell for now!

When I was watching Miss Lucy last week, we went and spent some time outside. She looked so cute I just had to take some pictures! Anyways, these three are my favorite. Enjoy!

Bumbo & Lucy

Well, I was looking at random blogs the other night and saw a picture of a baby in a bumbo. He looked pretty comfortable so I figured that maybe Lucy would like one. I found them online and talked my Mom into buying it. Fast forward a week and ta-da! Look how adorable she looks!

There she is holding Sophie, the Giraffe. She got that in her Christmas stocking and likes to chew on his head (and feet...).

I bought her this onesie back when I had a job and was not a poor student. It says 'Practically Perfect', which is pretty true!

Lincoln Logs DeMarco

This little guy is the newest edition to our family. His name is Lincoln Logs DeMarco. If you ask Angie or Emilie, they will say it is Lincoln Tiddilywinks DeMarco. How did they come up with that middle name? I have no idea. And, since it is my cat, I overruled them.

Anyways, we have had Lincoln since mid-November. Before that, Michael and Emilie had him. My brother is a project manager for a company that builds homes, and discovered Lincoln fenced into the porch stairs of a home he was inspecting. He broke one of the stairs, pulled him out, and took him home. He was starving and all of his claws were broken from trying to escape. They gave him warm milk and sliced meat, and he started doing much better. He did, however, have an infected eye and we wanted to make sure he was healthy. Michael and Emilie were in the process of moving into a new home, so my sister and I offered to take him to the vet. Big mistake.

We took him to the vet and got him some eye drops. Other than his eye, he was a healthy little bugger. At this point, he only weighed one pound. We decided to keep him until we could get him neutered and then put him up for adoption. He needed to weight at least two pounds to get fixed. He stayed with me in my room for a few weeks and finally started gaining some weight. We then got him his vaccines and fixed. By this point, me and my sister loved the little guy and couldn't give him up. After giving my parents some sad faces (a lot of them actually), we got permission to keep him.

He is an adorable little cat. When we first got him home, he was pretty skittish, but now he is much more social. He gets along with our other cats except for Nora. She doesn't like him, but we are working on that. He loves to gallop around the house and bite my toes when I am sleeping. Lincoln also likes to paw me in the face in the middle of the night. I don't get it. He thinks his litter box is his personal playground and likes to kick litter over the sides (pretty annoying). Lincoln also likes to play with toys and explore the house. He somehow always has lint and dust on his back. And, as you can see, he loves getting his picture taken.

I finally took some sunset pictures. My goal was to do it at least once over the break and I almost didn't make it!

Sadly, school started again yesterday. I have five classes total and oddly enough, all three I went to yesterday have the same teacher. Hopefully I like him! I am taking Legal Ethics, Legal Research in the Library, Civil Litigation, Criminal Law, and Business Communications. Sounds fun, eh?

I am sitting down in Spanish Fork at my brothers house, watching cute little Lucy. She has been happy all day which, fortunately, is not unusual. I'll end with a picture of her... It is my favorite picture of her from Christmas because of the face she is pulling. Enjoy!
